Human Artifact — Stacey Prince
The juried exhibition "(s)Light of Hand 2019" showcases 32 works by 25 artists exploring the diverse landscape of alternative photographic processes, selected by juror Suda House. Featured techniques span from traditional methods like platinum palladium and photogravure to experimental approaches including anthotypes in resin blocks and mixed media works on plexiglass with encaustic. The exhibition demonstrates the contemporary vitality of historical processes, with standout pieces including Stacey Prince's "Human Artifact" (Juror's Choice) and Wayne Swanson's "Spine De:ReConstruction" series (Director's Choice).
Suda House is a San Diego-based photographer with over four decades of experience in the medium. Her passion for photography began in Los Angeles when she witnessed her first image develop in the darkroom—a magical moment that ignited a lifelong dedication to the craft. She continues to create and exhibit her work, driven by the belief that photography has the power to inspire others to see, experience, and capture images that reflect their personal vision.
Suda is a strong advocate for visual literacy, critical thinking, and social responsibility in photography. In an age where cameras are ubiquitous and images are shared instantly across the internet, she emphasizes the importance of understanding photography's rich history and its potential to enrich and even change the world. Her work celebrates the power of the individual voice and encourages photographers to use their unique vantage point to make a positive impact.
