Collective Member
In a life dedicated to photography since 1971, Donna has been a news photographer, camera store owner, museum docent, lab tech, curator, juror, educator, lecturer, and leader in the photographic community. After thirty years of teaching photography at the college level, Donna retired as the photography department head at Palomar College in 2018. That same year she opened The Photographer’s Eye in Escondido, CA., a non-profit gallery whose mission is to bring awareness to the power of the photographic image. Working together with a Collective of fine photographers, the gallery and darkroom has become a nurturing place of learning and support for photographic artists and the community.
As a practicing photographic artist I work primarily with black and white film using my Rolleiflex 120 camera and a ZONE VI 4x5. I also love playing with my refurbished SX70 and my iPhone, and those photographs often finish as alternative process prints. Process is important to my work and in addition to darkroom printing, I will use Cyanotype, Platinum/Palladium and Photogravure. My work centers on my deep affinity with the natural world. I find peace in the ever-shifting Mojave desert, walking the woods and waterways of the Eastern Sierra, and in the many locales near my home in Escondido, California. In my days as a photojournalist energy was high,I had to be ready to 'capture THE moment'. These days I wander with my camera looking to fall in love. It is a serene endeavor. I am content to spend quiet time immersed in Mother Nature.
