About the Instructor

Brandy Sebastian

Brandy Sebastian is a fine art photographer whose contemplative work explores the intersection of nature, memory, and emotion. Her images have been exhibited nationally, including at the San Diego Art Institute, Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, and Oceanside Museum of Art. She is a member of Griffin Museum of Photography and Los Angeles Center of Photography, and her work is held in private collections across the United States.

Brandy is the founder and director of Oak Gallery in Oceanside, California, a contemporary fine art gallery dedicated to showcasing innovative photographic work. She holds a B.A. in Art/Photography from San Francisco State University and continues to explore new ways of seeing through both her personal practice and her curatorial work.

Since 2019, Brandy Sebastian has immersed herself in the world of Lumen making, tirelessly experimenting and exploring new techniques. Always pushing the boundaries of traditional methods, she elevates her artistry by incorporating alternative chemistries into her creations. This infusion of various elements ensures that her pieces transcend mere botanical imagery, coming to life through dynamic reaction and interaction. Through the inclusion of an array of black and white darkroom papers, Sebastian's work truly blossoms into a multi-dimensional masterpiece, captivating viewers with its depth and complexity.

Materials Provided

1 sheet each of 4-5 different paper types at 8x10 to 11x14 in size
A variety of plant materials
Extra chemistries to choose from
Use of plexiglass and backboard with clips
Materials fee ($25) included in tuition

What to Bring

Sack lunch (30-minute lunch break)
Thumb drive for your scanned images
Optional: Plant materials from your garden, laces, etc. Items must be relatively flat (except plants). Negatives will not work with this wet process.
