Mitch Eckert is an award-winning artist whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and featured in publications ranging from textbooks to journals. He holds a B.F.A. in photography and sculpture from Indiana University and an M.F.A. from Ohio University, focusing on photography and printmaking. His work is held in prestigious collections including the 21c Museum, Butler Institute of American Art, and Indianapolis Museum of Art.
With over 30 years of mastery in historic photographic processes—including kallitype, daguerreotype, and salt printing—Mitch brings deep technical knowledge and conceptual sophistication to his teaching. He is an Associate Professor of Art in Louisville, Kentucky, where his ongoing explorations in still life, botanical studies, and natural history have shaped his artistic practice for more than 25 years.

Join Professor of Photography Mitch Eckert for a hands-on, two-day immersive workshop exploring the rich, luminous world of platinum and palladium printing. With over 30 years of experience in historic and alternative photographic processes—including daguerreotypes, wet plate collodion, salt prints, kallitypes, and more—Mitch brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for the handcrafted image.
This workshop will introduce participants to the legacy and elegance of the platinum/palladium process while providing practical experience in creating digital negatives tailored for this exquisite printing method. Working with Hahnemühle's finest Platinum Rag paper and high-quality chemistry, students will produce archival prints known for their depth, tonal range, and subtle beauty.
By the end of the workshop, each participant can expect to leave with 5–7 finished prints made from two of their own black-and-white digital images—transformed through one of photography's most revered techniques.
Whether you're a seasoned photographer or new to alternative processes, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to slow down, connect with materials, and make photographic prints that truly last.
Materials Fee: $75 includes paper and chemistry
